NUMMES stands for Nonprofit Universal Modular Medical Education System. It is the blueprint or vision for an alternative healthcare education system.
Nonprofit – free for participants and facilities.
Universal – available on a global scale.
Modular – divided into theory, skills, and practise modules.
Medical – aimed at educating the system of Western healthcare.
Education – training people from zero knowledge to being healthcare professionals.
System – a structured system with clear standards and quality control.
At the moment, NUMMES is a loosely formed team composed of me and a number of advisors. I am looking for more partners to form a Dutch NGO related to NUMMES. This Dutch NGO will be a stepping stone towards starting the global NUMMES NGO in Switzerland.

About the NUMMES founder. My name is Thijs Hottenhuis, and I was born in ‘69 in the Netherlands. At the time I work at the support helpdesk of an American software company. Before I started here, I have done many jobs, and travelled all over the world.
I have always had an interest in health and fitness, and in healing. Although I am a layman in these areas, I have gathered quite some information on these subjects on the Internet and through my various jobs and activities. And personal health issues which I have overcome have taught me the value of health.
My direct involvement with healthcare and healthcare education comprise studying physiotherapy for several years (not graduated), being an Emergency First Responder instructor while I was working as a PADI Scuba Diving Instructor, and being active as a recruiter of sponsors for Doctors Without Borders in Norway.
All these activities and experiences had already made it clear to me that the state of affairs with healthcare and healthcare education in our world are not without problems. I have pondered these problems and came up with the NUMMES idea.
